Former Fort Dorchester basketball star killed in Fla. accident

OCALA, Fla. (AP) — Former Fort Dorchester basketball star Darrian George was killed in a car accident last weekend.

Four people were killed, including George, and four others were injured after the SUV they were driving in turned over on Interstate 75 in Ocala, Fla.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that George, 17, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe at about 3 a.m. Saturday.

George transferred to Norcross High School in Georgia just before the school year.

Investigators say he veered onto the center grass median and then steered right to try and get back on the roadway. That's when he lost control of the vehicle. Authorities say the SUV turned over several times before landing on its roof.

George and 30-year-old Tiffany Bradshaw were pronounced dead at the scene. Two children in the vehicle, Kyla George, 7, and Kayden George, 3, also died.

Four others are injured, including one in critical condition. None of the deceased were wearing seatbelts, according to FHP.

George had already received offers for college basketball scholarships.
