2 Walterboro men sent to prison on federal gun charges

WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - Two Walterboro men were sentenced to prison on Thursday for violating federal gun laws.

Both 32-year-old Eric Nathaniel Washington and 21-year-old Joseph Elvin DeJesus, who both have prior felony convictions, were convicted for possessing firearms.

Washington was sentenced to 41 months in prison for possessing a stolen shotgun and an AK-47 on June 9, 2010. Washington had previously been convicted of voluntary manslaughter in 1997.

DeJesus was sentenced to 30 months in prison. On October 4, 2010 DeJesus was seen in possession of a .40 caliber pistol that he tried to hide in a restaurant bathroom when spotted by police officers. DeJesus' prior record included three state convictions for illegally possessing handguns.
