JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Air Force was called out to a report of an unexploded ordnance found outside a home on Johns Island.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says they called in the Air Force to a home on Maybank Highway after a man spotted the ordnance on his yard Friday afternoon.
The homeowners David and Brenda Woolman says they went to go lift up an old steel bin when the object was discovered.
"It was an old Civil War ordnance called a Hotchkiss," said Brenda Woolman. "When authorities were able to get a closer look, they realized that it had the year 1863 written on it."
The Charleston County bomb squad was also on scene and says no evacuation was necessary.
Major Jim Brady with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office says the Air Force removed the ordnance.
