High tide takes Pawleys Island boaters to safety

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) Two men aboard a 14-foot boat are safe after they got stuck in shallow water, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office.

Coast Guard officials explain that the two men called just before 2 a.m. Thursday morning to be rescued after trying to navigate a creek in Pawleys Island that their boat was in. Rescue squads spent most of the overnight hours trying to get the men to safety before high tide due to concern over the men getting hypothermia.

Once the tide began to rise, the water freed the wedged vessel, allowing the boaters to make it safely to a nearby dock.

Coast Guard officials said the men had been out on the water since Wednesday morning. Officials have not yet identified the boaters.
