Crews clean up fuel, beer after truck flips on Highway 17

MCCLELLANVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Emergency and clean up crews have cleared an accident on Highway 17 North, just south of McClellanville, after a tractor trailer carrying beer and a car collided.

A portion of highway 17 was shut down for several hours. The accident happened just before 10 p.m. on Highway 17 near Lofton Road, just south of McClellanville.

Crews initially shut down three lanes on Highway 17 as fuel from the semi spilled onto two northbound lanes. The semi was carrying beer that also needed to be cleaned up. Soon after, one northbound and both southbound lanes were re-opened.

According to police, the driver of the truck is OK. One other car was involved and the driver suffered minor injuries. A deputy from the scene says the drivers are lucky to be alive.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Department, beer was also leaking from the truck. The accident is still being investigated.
