JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A 25-year-old man is still in a coma Tuesday after Charleston County sheriff's deputies say he was hit by a drunk driver early Sunday morning on James Island.
Deputies have charged 31-year-old Matthew Fisher with felony DUI after they say he hit Beau Froehlich who was walking in the road after the Skinful Halloween party early Sunday morning.
During bond court Monday, a Charleston County judge set Fisher's bond at $25,000.
Deputies say Fisher was driving near the intersection of Folly and South Grimball Road around 3 a.m. when he struck Froehlich. According to investigators, the suspect then drove to the fire station on Folly Road.
After field sobriety tests were done, investigators say the suspect showed signs of impairment and was arrested for felony DUI. Kenneth Froehlich, the victim's father, said Monday that his son was leaving the Skinful party on foot.
Kenneth Froehlich also said that his son, who was taken to MUSC, is in a coma and said that organizers of the Skinful event should take responsibility for putting people in danger.
"There are two victims in this incident and the worst is my son. Two lives have been changed forever," Froehlich said.
