Puppy saved from Summerville house fire

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Summerville firefighters saved a puppy from a house fire Tuesday morning. The family of four, including two children, made it out safely, but their home suffered major damage in a fire.

Summerville firefighters responded to the blaze and were able to rescue a puppy from the garage. Everyone else got out safely before units arrived and no one was hurt.

The American Red Cross assisted the Summerville family whose Eastover Circle home suffered major damage after an early morning fire.

The family received temporary lodging in a nearby hotel, financial assistance to help replace the food, clothing and shoes lost in the fire and comfort kits filled with personal emergency supplies.

The Red Cross has assisted 938 individuals needing aid due to disasters, such as home fires, in its seven-county region of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties since January 1.
