WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have released 911 calls made after a shooting that involved a 5-year-old girl being shot in the head.
In the 911 audio, the girl's mother calls 911 and tells the dispatcher that someone had shot into their house on Pierpont Avenue early Tuesday morning.
"We've been shot at. Our house has been broken into. We have three children and we need someone here now," the victim told the 911 operator.
The woman mentions that her husband had been shot, but did not mention that her daughter was wounded. Investigators with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that at the time, the parents did not realize that their daughter had been shot since the room the family took refuge in was dark.
"We do not know where this person is," the victim's mother told the 911 operator. "We just know that they have a gun and they have shot at our house."
The shooting has left people in this neighborhood shocked and searching for answers. More importantly, it has left a 5-year-old girl fighting for her life.
Charleston County sheriff's deputies arrested a man from a nearby neighborhood on drug charges Tuesday afternoon and are investigating to see if there is a possible connection between the shooting and his arrest.
