ST. GEORGE, SC (WCSC) - A traffic stop led police to a big drug bust and an arrest Tuesday night on Behling Street in St. George.
The St. George Police department was conducting a traffic stop in the area when they heard 10 to 12 gun shots. When officers arrived at Behling Street they met with a man who told them three men tried to rob him.
The man told police that he tried to chase after the men and that they started shooting at him.
Authorities say one of the officers entered into the complainant's house and noticed a strong odor of marijuana in the residence. Officers also noticed drug paraphernalia on a table and some glass jars with some green leafy plant material inside a closet.
Officers were able to obtain a search warrant for the house and arrested and charged 49-year-old Anthony Vaughan.
During the search police discovered more than eight weapons including: a .22 caliber handgun, .25 Caliber FIE Corp handgun, a 300 Mag Encore Thompson/center arms rifle and a .243 Caliber Rugar M77 Rifle just to name a few. Police also confiscated more than $2,000.
Vaughan was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana in a half mile of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia.
