WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County sheriff's deputies are investigating if two home invasions in the same neighborhood are connected.
Saturday night, four or five armed men forced their way into an apartment on Dogwood Road and robbed the two residents.
Tuesday morning, someone knocked on the door of a home on Pierpont Avenue and fired shots through the door hitting a 5-year-old girl in the head and wounding her father in the arm.
One of the victims of the Dogwood Road incident didn't report the crime right away.
"There was like dudes standing there with shotguns, were four others behind them, and all I did was close my door and lock it so they wouldn't mess with me," the still frightened man said.
"They threatened my roommate, they said they'd kill him, and they let a round off right here in the front yard."
On Tuesday he heard about the attempted home invasion and shooting on Pierpont Avenue that left a 5-year-old girl fighting for her life.
"This is messed up, it's messed up," he said.
That's when he decided to tell deputies what happened to him. Detectives arrested 17-year-old Devoun Bennett in connection to the incident. Bennett was charged with first-degree burglary, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
The sheriff's office says it is looking into the possibility of the two incidents being related. A spokesman says right now, nothing is being ruled out.
