Study: Aspirin may reduce the risk of colon cancer

(CNN) - Aspirin is known for helping reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

But the drug is also good at helping prevent colorectal cancer in people who have a family history of the disease, according to a new study.

Researchers with the Universities of Newcastle and Leeds in England looked at 861 people in their study.

Some took aspirin daily, while others got placebos.

Those who took two aspirin a day for two years reduced their risk of hereditary colorectal cancer by more than 60 percent, according to the study's findings.
