Bond set at $20k for man suspected of shooting his dogs

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A Johns Island man faced a judge and was given a more than $20,000 bond on Friday after police say he shot his two dogs with a gun.

Trevor Kruse was arrested for two counts of ill-treatment to animals, which is a felony offense.  Kruse could be facing a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of $5,000 for each count.

Police responded to the home of Kruse at 3050 Marlin Drive after they received a call of shots being heard early Friday morning.  Police found one dog named Ace dead on the scene and another named Aviar with several wounds to both fronts legs and chest.

City of Charleston Animal Control Officers transported Aviar, a German Shepard mix to the Charleston Animal Society where she was stabilized by staff veterinarians before being transferred to the Emergency Clinic.

Aviar had wounds that shattered bones in both her front legs.  Officials said her injuries were so extensive that after hours of emergency treatment it was deemed that it was inhumane to treat her injuries further.  Aviar was humanely euthanized.
