Pedestrian killed on Savannah Highway identified

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car Monday morning after an incident in West Ashley.

According to Charleston police, the incident happened around 7 a.m. on Savannah Highway near Briarcliff Road in front of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Police say that a mini-van struck the predestrian, 51-year-old Maria McIntosh, of West Ashley. EMS arrived on scene and pronounced McIntosh dead.

According to the Charleston County Coroner's Office, McIntosh died from blunt force trauma.

Traffic was temporaily closed on Savannah Highway, but has since reopened.
