ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Boeing will announce plans to lease the hanger that housed the space shuttles to build similar crafts that will bring people and cargo to space.
Gov. Rick Scott's office and President Barack Obama's administration confirmed plans for the Monday announcement between Space Florida, the state's space agency, and Boeing.
The deal will create 140 jobs in the next 18 months and to 550 jobs by 2015 in an area that's lost jobs as the space shuttle program was retired earlier this year.
The reusable space capsules will be able to bring up to seven people into space. Right now, the United States doesn't have a way to transport people or cargo to the International Space Station.
