NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say they have charged a 54-year-old Summerville man after he crashed into a deputy's patrol car on Interstate 26 Monday night.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol charged Robert Blankonship with driving too fast for conditions.

The accident happened around 6 p.m. on I-26 west near the Aviation Avenue exit. South Carolina Highway Patrol says the deputy's car slowed down for traffic when it was hit from behind causing two other cars to be hit.

The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was hurt in the wreck. Highway Patrol is continuing the investigation.
