Coast Guard seizes 2,300 pounds of pot, 866 pounds of cocaine

MIAMI (WCSC) - A Coast Guard crew based out of Charleston helped seize 2,300 pounds of marijuana onboard a vessel in the Caribbean Sea last week.

The Coast Guard Cutter Gallatin, homebased in Charleston, spotted a 30-foot vessel in the Caribbean Sea last Wednesday. On board, authorities found 2,300 pounds of marijuana and transferred the contraband to the Coast Guard cutter Confidence out of Port Canaveral, Fla.

In a separate case, another Coast Guard ship, seized 886 pounds of cocaine from a 160-foot Bolivian-flagged freighter northeast of Panama on Oct. 14.
