Orangeburg Co. house fire reveals illegal casino

ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) - The Orangeburg County fire department discovered an illegal gambling operation, while responding to a routine call.

Officials say around 1p.m., fire crews responded to a fire at a home off of Bill Salley Road on Wednesday.

According to the fire department, when they arrived on scene, the front part of the home was engulfed in flames.

Fire crews say it took them an hour and a half to finally put the fire out.

According to officials, when crews began to analyze damage to the home, they discovered that the "home" had no beds and that there were 20 illegal gambling machines in three rooms of the building.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office was contacted for further investigation.

Officials say the cause of the fire and the owner of the building has not been determined.
