Man charged again for gambling machines on boat

ORANGEBURG, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities say a 71-year-old man has been charged for the second time for operating illegal gambling machines on his boat the "Mark Twain."

The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office arrested William R. Detyens on Friday following an investigation.

"Officers executed a search warrant onboard the Mark Twain Friday night after an extensive investigation that the owner had installed seven new machines after his arrest in March," said Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell. "A band was playing, patrons were at the bar, and the machines were warm to the touch when officers boarded Friday night."

Detyens was given a $20,000 bond on Thursday.

"Good times ended early Friday night. I say to the owner of the Mark Twain,‘It wasn't legal then, it's not legal now,'" Sheriff Ravenell said.
