ORANGEBURG, SC (WCSC) -

Five people were arrested after investigators found $1,000 worth of marijuana and machine guns at a home in Orangeburg on Thursday.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office charged 26-year-old Luther Brandell Green III, 18-year-old Jasmine Simone Matthews, 23-year-old Cristyon Labaron Evans, 19-yearj-old Treasure Latrice Brabham and Levon Wells with distributing drugs near a school.

During an undercover operation, investigators say they made a narcotics purchase in a Southland Apartment.

According to investigators, officers obtained a search warrant following the purchase and seized an AK-47 machine gun, a TEC-9 with a silencer, a 9mm automatic handgun, and a .25 caliber automatic handgun.

"These individuals possessed some powerful weapons and ammunition capable of great bodily injury or ending the life of a young person far too soon," Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said."I am grateful these weapons are off the streets of Orangeburg County and will not cause any family significant grief."
