North Charleston firefighters respond to 3 house fires

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The North Charleston Fire Department was called out to three house fires Saturday afternoon throughout the city. The first fire occurred in the 7700 block of Nellview Drive in North Charleston.

Fire officials say two people were taking a nap with the smoke alarm alerted them to a fire in the house. Both of the residents were able to escape the blaze unharmed.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and extinguished the flames, but were unable to save the family's cat. There was significant damage to the house. The residents are being helped by family members and the cause of this fire is still under investigation.

The second fire occurred on Leslie Drive around 3p.m. The porch caught on fire at this home and was engulfed by flames. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze. Authorities say the family was able to stay in their home.

A third fire occurred at Melvin Court at approximately 12:15. When firefighter arrived on scene, they could see smoke showing from the exterior of the home.

Fire officials say there was heavy damage to the interior of the house. No one was injured in this fire.

All three families are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The cause of these fires are still under investigation.
