CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Charleston City Police are looking for Grady Paul Mathis.

Mathis, 48, is wanted on two counts of forgery.

Police say Mathis passed the bogus checks at two credit union branches.

"Cashed one check for $527 against a local business. Twenty minutes later he went to another branch of the same credit union and cashed another check, this time for $957 against the same company," said Charleston City Police Cpl. Fred Bowie.

"He was hitting it quick getting away with it. He knew he got away with it in the first place, so he went straight to the second place."

Detectives say it didn't take long to figure out the allegedly passed by the fugitive were phony.

"The checks hadn't been reported stolen, so obviously he counterfeited them on a computer, had the right routing numbers and all that on it," Bowie said.

But investigators say Mathis messed up. It turns out he was caught on video tape, allegedly passing the counterfeit checks.

Mathis stands 5'7" and weighs about 140 lbs.

His last known address was on Sellers Road in the City of Hanahan.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
