JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A man and his dog are lucky to be alive after a fire nearly destroyed their home on James Island.
The fire broke out around 1 a.m. Thursday on Arsburn Road in Charleston, just off Battery Island Drive.
According to fire officials, the house is about 75 percent damaged.
An elderly man and his dog were in the home at the time of the blaze, but they got out safely.
There is no word on what caused the fire, but officials say the fire started in the kitchen.
Both James Island and Charleston Fire Departments help put out the flames.
