Charleston County council demands answers on tax bills

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Many Charleston County residents still have not received tax bills. That issue was on the table Thursday night as the council questioned auditor Peggy Moseley about the delay in mailing property taxes. Moseley says a glitch with a software system is to blame.

"Mr. Summey, if you think you are more interested in the taxpayer than I am, you are extremely wrong," Mosley said during Thursday night's council meeting.

Councilman Elliott Summey wanted to know why the bills that are correct can't go out. Moseley responded by saying that you can't just pick and chose which to send.

"She says she's going to get them out in time for people. I'm going to hope that she does," Summey said. "She says that she's praying it gets out. I'm praying along with her."

The bills are expected to be mailed out by the Nov. 14. There will be a 45-day grace period for the car tax bills.
