Berkeley Co. deputy fired after criminal domestic arrest

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a Berkeley County Sheriff's deputy was fired on Monday after he was arrested for a criminal domestic incident.

The sheriff's office says Steve Beane was arrested on Monday by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for official misconduct and criminal domestic violence.

According to investigators, on Nov. 5, a complaint was made concerning an alleged assault that occurred the day before at Beane's home. Beane was suspended at that time and an internal investigation was conducted by the sheriff's office.

Upon conclusion of the internal investigation it was determined that criminal laws had been violated and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was requested to conduct an investigation, authorities say.

Beane had been employed by the sheriff's office since August 2007.
