Community remembers McCray with jazz send off downtown

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The music community came together Tuesday to remember Jack McCray. The Charleston native died last week.

McCray's funeral started at 11 a.m. at Mother Emanuel AME Church on Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston.

McCray was a jazz musician, writer, historian and a driving force in the music scene in Charleston.

He directed the Charleston Jazz Orchestra and published a weekly jazz column in the Post and Courier.

He was also the co-founder of the Charleston Jazz Initiative. McCray was 64.
