Woman arrested for stealing money from father's church

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Police say they have arrested a 20-year-old woman suspected of stealing more than $700 from her father's church in Summerville.

The Summerville Police Department charged Miranda Miller with petit larceny.

On Nov. 8, investigators with the Summerville Police Department met with John Miller, pastor of the Emanuel Baptist Church on Boone Street.

Miller said he was told that $708 was missing from the church funds and believed his daughter may be involved. According to Miller, Miranda works as a volunteer at the church.

A police report states that the pastor confronted his daughter about the missing money later in the day at home. The father says that Miranda admitted to stealing the money and spending $567 at a Walmart in Goose Creek.

According to investigators, she then agreed to come with her father to the police where she turned herself in and confessed to taking the money.

The father told authorities he would like to file charges and the suspect was then placed under arrest.

She was then booked and released with a court date scheduled for December at the Summerville Municipal Court.
