Ashley Ridge edges Stratford; Goose Creek, Timberland win while Wando falls

SCHSL AAAA Division 2 Playoffs - Second Round

Ashley Ridge 24, Stratford 21 - The Swamp Foxes (10-3) rallied for its first-ever state quarterfinal victory; Jacob Thompson hit Freddie Weeks on a busted play with less than 20 seconds left in the contest for the game-winning touchdowns on 4th and 3.  It was Weeks' first career TD.  Thompson threw for 185 yards on 13-19 passing, and Romelo Doctor added 110 yards and a touchdowns on 16 carries.  Ashley Ridge now has its first-ever 10-win season, and will travel to Greenwood next week.  The Knights season ends at 9-4.

Goose Creek 41, Northwestern 7 - The Gators (12-1) had little trouble exacting revenge for last year's loss to the Trojans in the state semifinals.  Goose Creek, which piled up over 640 yards of offense, will host North Augusta next week.


SCHSL AAAA Division 1 Playoffs - Second Round

Byrnes 56, Summerville 20 - The Green Wave (8-5) got an 81-yard touchdown run from Jerrod Tucker, and 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Darrin Smalls, but the big plays were not enough to avoid a blowout in Duncan.  This was a rematch of the 2007 state finals, which Byrnes also won.

Blythewood 13, Wando 8 - The Warriors (7-6) gave up a fourth-quarter touchdown in the season-ending loss.  This was Wando's best season since 2004.


SCHSL AAA Playoffs - Lower State Semifinals

A.C. Flora 44, Cane Bay 28 - The Cobras (9-4) best season in school history ended on the road.  Cane Bay will move up to AAAA next season.


SCHSL AA Division 1 Playoffs - Lower State Semifinals

Timberland 28, Hanahan 21 - The Wolves (12-1) held off the Hawks (7-5) to return to the state semifinals.  Classe Thompson scored two touchdowns on the ground for Timberland, which extended its winning streak over Hanahan to 10 games.  The Hawks' offense struggled in the second half when quarterback Anthony Smalls left the game with an injury.  The Wolves will travel to postseason nemesis Dillon for the Lower State finals.  Dillon has eliminated Timberland in each of the past three seasons. 


SCHSL AA Division 2 Playoffs - Lower State Semifinals


Bishop England 28, Marion 14 - The Battling Bishops (11-1) raced out to 28-0 lead early in the third quarter, then held on to extend its school-record tying winning streak to 11 games.  BE's defense made four interceptions; Danny Croghan threw for one touchdowns and ran for two more.  Bishop England will host Silver Bluff in the Lower State finals, with a chance to go to the state finals for the first time 1976.
