A year of bragging rights on the line for USC, Clemson

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - With SEC play behind them and the last chance of ending up in the SEC Championship game gone, the Gamecocks will now focus their attention to the Clemson Tigers in the annual Battle of the Palmetto State.

The Tigers are obviously hoping to win this one to avoid a third straight loss against the Gamecocks.

The Gamecocks have only beaten the Tigers three years in a row once. In fact, the streak record for USC is four games, which was set from 1951 to 1954.

Clemson was trounced Saturday by an unranked NC State team 37-13, bringing their record to 9-2, but giving them their second ACC Atlantic title in the past three years. They'll be playing the ACC Championship game.

Meanwhile, the Gamecocks walked away with a win against the Citadel Bulldogs 41-20. They'll enter the annual meeting with a 9-2 record as well.

Gamecock coach Steve Spurrier remarked on both teams' records during his Sunday afternoon conference call.

"I guess it is a sign that both of our programs are in pretty good shape," said Spurrier. "We've both recruited pretty well. We're two good teams to play each other at the end of the year."

The two teams will meet Saturday at 7:45pm on ESPN.
