Gun Buy Back program in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, the Georgetown Police Department, and the Georgetown Ministerial Association are teaming up to buy back handguns with no questions asked.

On December 3 from 10 am to 1 pm at the First Baptist Church on 219 Cleland Street, law enforcement officers will be giving out $100 Wal-Mart gift cards to those delivering handguns to the officers.

There are strict guidelines to participate in this buy back event.  The handgun must be in working order and unloaded.  The handgun must be placed in the trunk of a vehicle.  You'll be given instructions by the officer when you enter the parking lot.  You must also wait in your vehicle until given instructions by the officer.

The buy back event is open to Georgetown residents and a volunteer will check your I. D. and no questions will be asked about the handgun.

"This is the first time doing this program," Sheriff A. Lane Cribb said, "I am interested in seeing the outcome, and if it truly helps in reducing crime in Georgetown County."

If you have any questions about the event, contact the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office at (843) 546-5102.
