Charleston fire department investigating downtown fire

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston fire officials are investigating an unusual report of a fire. They were called to an apartment complex on Vanderhorst Street Saturday afternoon.

Fire officials say they found a pile of ashes on the front porch of one of the units.

When they talked to the renter, she said a man knocked on her door around 4 a.m. and told her that her recycling bin was on fire.

She used water to put out the small flames and says the man repeatedly tried to come inside but she told him not too.

The man left once the flames were out. The Charleston Fire Department is investigating.
