Authorities looking for suspect in Ravenel carjacking

RAVENEL, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says a 67-year-old woman managed to escape a carjacking in Ravenel Monday evening.

Deputies responded to a home on Savannah Highway to a report of a carjacking and assault around 6 p.m. on Monday.

The 67-year-old victim told authorities that as she was getting out of her vehicle at her home, an unknown man approached her, stuck an object against her back and said it was a gun.

The suspect demanded that the victim get into the passenger side of the vehicle. The victim said the suspect then got behind the wheel.

An incident report states that the suspect drove down several roads before stopping on Hyde Park Road where the victim attempted to leave the car. According to the victim, at that point, the suspect grabbed the victim by the neck and began choking her.

The victim said she though the suspect was trying to break her neck. Authorities say the victim was eventually able to get away from the suspect.

Investigators describe the suspect as a mid 20's to early 30's black male, 5'11", 170 pounds with black hair. The vehicle is a maroon four door 1996 Acura 3.2 TL.
