Police catch man suspected of 2 armed robberies in downtown

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department has charged a 20-year-old man with two armed robberies that happened within a two day period in downtown.

Byron Aaron Minter Jr. is charged with two counts of armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

The first armed robbery occurred about 11 p.m. on Nov. 27 at Yassman Market at 51 Reid Street. A man armed with a handgun entered the business, went behind the counter, pointed the gun at a clerk and grabbed an undetermined amount of money from the cash register.

The suspect also grabbed a package of cigars as he ran out of the store.

The second armed robbery happened around 9 p.m. on Nov. 28 at the Hanover Grocery Store at 80 Columbus Street.

The suspect, armed with a handgun, entered the business and went behind the counter. Police say the suspect then pushed the clerk out of his way, grabbed an undetermined amount of money from the cash register and ran out of the store.

None of the victims were injured during these incidents.

Minter was locked up at the Charleston County Detention Center.
