Authorities track down suspect in Ravenel manhunt

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A man suspected of stealing an SUV and leading deputies in a chase in Ravenel has been arrested.

The suspect was taken into custody around midnight on Wednesday, according to authorities. His identity has not yet been released.

According to officials, a 1999 black Ford Explorer that was stolen at a West Ashley CVS on Nov. 30 was involved in a chase the following day with Charleston County sheriff's deputies.

Last Thursday's manhunt began around 1:30 p.m. after deputies spotted the stolen SUV in the area of the Fuel Zone on Highway 17. Deputies located the stolen Ford Explorer and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle.

Deputies chased down the vehicle on Highway 17 south to the Jericho Mobile Home Park and then used stop sticks to bring the vehicle to a halt. After the vehicle's tires deflated, the driver fled on foot, abandoning the vehicle at the fence line.

Authorities at the time did not say if they believed the suspect was the same in both crimes or if they are looking for two different suspects.
