Citadel Basketball standout Mike Groselle earned his second honor of the season from the Southern Conference office, when he was named November Athlete of the Month on Thursday. The athletes of the month are nominated by each member institution and selected by the conference office.
Groselle finished the month of November with five consecutive double-doubles and, in the process, extended his personal and program-high streak to six, including a double-double in the 2011 SoCon Tournament against Elon.
Groselle, who averaged 35 minutes of action in the opening month of the 2011-12 season, hit at least six field goals in all five contests, including a month-high 9-of-12 performance in the season opener against VMI. His 25-point, 11-rebound outing against the Keydets was followed by a 16-point, 10-rebound performance less than 24 hours later against Army at the All-Military Classic in Colorado Springs, Colo.
In the home-opener against Clemson, Groselle scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to move his consecutive double-double streak to four. Five days later, the Plano, Texas, native finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds (six offensive) in a victory over Florida Christian. In his final game of the month, Groselle came through with 15 points and 13 rebounds in a tough 80-72 overtime loss at High Point.
Groselle scored 91 points and posted 56 total rebounds throughout the month of November, recording a double-double average of 18.2 ppg. and 11.2 rpg.
Coincidentally, the honor comes in the same week that he was selected among November's All-SoCon performers by Collegehoops.net.
