Dorchester man sentenced to 20 years for shooting repo men

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A 52-year-old man was sentenced on Friday to 20 years for shooting two repo men in Dorchester County.

Authorities charged Melvin Haynes with assault and battery for shooting a man and his brother who were trying to repo Haynes' truck in Ridgeville on June 28, 2009.

According to investigators, Johnny and Robert Davis had Haynes' truck on the lift of the tow truck when Hayes came out of his house completely naked with a 12-gauge shot gun.

Haynes then shot at the tow truck with some of the pellets hitting Robert Davis. Johnny Davis said he looked back and noticed Hayes was reloading his gun.

Johnny Davis told Haynes that he was putting his truck down and not to shoot. Hayes then fired another shot into the back window of the tow truck, striking Johnny Davis in the shoulder and face area.

The brothers then left the scene and called 911.
