Investigators find Georgetown shooting suspect in Florida

GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a man wanted for shooting at two people in Georgetown was arrested in Florida on Friday.

The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office says Florida law enforcement arrested Brian Keith Elliott who is wanted for two counts of attempted murder. He was taken into custody at the community of Collier County in Naples, Florida.

On Dec. 5, deputies responded to the 521 Mini Mart on 9275 Highmarket Street in Georgetown County to meet with the victim who allegedly was shot at by Elliott.

Sheriff's deputies found the victim in the parking lot with his girlfriend who was also in the truck during the incident.  Upon inspection of the truck, investigators say there were several bullet holes discovered. The two victims were not injured.

The sheriff's office says as a result of several leads, investigators determined the suspect and a female traveled to the southern Florida region.

Information on the suspects was provided to the Florida law enforcement region and the U.S. Marshall Service. The provided information allowed Florida law enforcement officials to locate the vehicle and set up a surveillance operation.

Authorities say 40-year-old Renee Jean Morris of Georgetown was identified as traveling with the suspect. Morris appeared and was taken into custody without incident. Further surveillance was maintained and after several hours, Elliott was taken into custody without any incident as well.

The suspects are currently in custody in Florida awaiting extradition to Georgetown, South Carolina.
