Summerville police say gunshots were fired outside of Shoney's Restaurant on Saturday night. Police say two groups of people started shooting at each other around 6 p.m. on North Main Street.

A server at Shoney's said she heard two gunshots and saw a white or hispanic male wearing a maroon jacket running between cars in front of Shoney's.  She also stated that a black male wearing a long puffy black jacket was also running in front of the restaurant.

She said the black male shot at the white male and that both men continued to run away from the location.

Another witness said they saw a white male running behind the Panera Bread. Seconds later the witness said they saw an armed black male looking in the parking lot in between cars.

According to multiple witnesses, a dark green or dark blue Ford Explorer then ran a stop sign, stopped. Someone inside the vehicle yelled out,"Get in! Get in!"

The white male then got into the vehicle which then fled the area towards Main Street.

Officers found shell casings in the area where the shooting happened.  Investigators are still searching for a motive in the case.
