The South Carolina Stingrays (13-9-0-1) snapped a five-game road winless streak with a 3-1 victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators (10-8-5-2) at The Arena at Gwinnett Center Saturday night.
Gladiators forward Chris Clackson kicked off the scoring at 7:22 of the first period slipping a rebound past Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer (W, 24 saves on 25 shots). Forwards Nikita Kashirsky andPat Galivan earned assists.
The Stingrays responded with three unanswered tallies to complete the game scoring and take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. Forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien lit the lamp with an unassisted marker at 12:43 for his 10 goal of the season. Less than 30 seconds later, forward Greg Stewart buried a pass from defenseman Zach Tarkir past Gladiators netminder Marc Cheverie (L, 28 saves on 31 shots) at 13:12. Forward Sean Dolan added the second assist. Forward David de Kastrozza gave the Stingrays a two-goal lead at 16:44 slapping home a feed from forward Matt Scherer from the top of the left-wing circle.
The Stingrays finished the night 0-for-1 on the power play. The Gladiators went 0-for-4.
The Stingrays wrap up a three-game in three-night road trip tomorrow, Sunday, December 11 against the Gladiators at 4:05 p.m. at The Arena at Gwinnett Center and return to the North Charleston ColiseumFriday, December 16 against the Gladiators at 7:05 p.m.
