Man wanted for attempting to abduct girls in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A man police believe may have attempted to abduct two children and a young woman is on the loose in North Charleston.

North Charleston police officers released a sketch of a man suspected of trying to abduct a 12- and 7-year-old girl Friday night Fenwood Street and Deerwood Drive. Police are also looking at similarities in a Nov. 10 incident involving the attempted abduction of a 23-year-old woman.

Police say a 12-year-old daughter was riding bicycles with her 7-year-old cousin when a Jeep approached them from the opposite direction. The girls told police that the Jeep drove on the right side of the road and a white male opened the door.

According to the girls, the man grabbed the 12-year-old girl's jacket and told her to come here. The victim pulled away and the 7-year-old girl began to scream. The suspect drove away and the girls ran home.

The girls described the suspect as a white male between 20 and 30 years old. He has a low hair cut, blonde hair, blue eyes and freckles. He was driving a red Jeep with black stripes.

North Charleston police detectives are trying to link this case with a similar attempted abduction that occurred on Nov. 10. In that case, police were dispatched to Buckfield Court where a 23-year-old woman told officers that a man attempted to abduct her.

The victim told police that she was walking on Otranto Road from the Lil' Cricket convenience store when she noticed a red Jeep Cherokee pass her twice. When she got into the area of Salamander Road, the suspect pulled the vehicle up next to her, reached out and grabbed her butt and asked "how much sex cost." She told him no and tried to walk away.

Still sitting in the Jeep, the suspect then grabbed her by the hair and tried to pull her up through the window and into the vehicle. The victim said she was halfway through the window when she was able to strike the victim in the face and get away.

The woman described the suspect as a white male about 6'0" and weighing 165 pounds. She told police he had a military-stile haircut, and was wearing blue jeans, a blue T-shirt and black shoes. She said the car was a Red Jeep Cherokee with black molding across the bottom with a Jeep license plate.
