MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - A 19-year-old man wanted for a shooting in Moncks Corner surrendered to police. The Moncks Corner police say Darnell Quintin Reid tuned himself over to authorities on Saturday.
Reid was wanted on a charge of assault and battery in connection with a July 31 shootout at the Village Apartments.
Authorities say he surrendered to police after seeing himself on Live 5's Most Wanted broadcast on Thursday regarding the July incident.
"There were numerous shots fired. I believe we recovered 14-16 nine millimeter casings," said Moncks Corner Police Lt. Michael Roach.
Police say Reid fired a shot that hit the other gunman in the stomach. Investigators believe the shooting was sparked by a post on social media.
"There was some dispute about what Mr. Reid put on a Facebook page about snitches," Roach said.
Officers say a bullet almost hit Reid's mother in her upstairs apartment.
"Had she been standing on the other side of the bed we might be talking another victim," Roach said.
Investigators say they actually got in touch with Reid after the shooting. Authorities say Reid tried to convince them he was the victim.
"That night I talked to him on the phone and he's telling me it was an issue of self defense, that they rolled up on him, they fired first," said Roach.
"If he's gonna argue self defense he can't prove that by running and hiding," Roach said.
