3rd suspect arrested, charged for April murder downtown

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police have arrested a third suspect in connection with the late-April fatal shooting of a 24-year-old man in downtown Charleston.

Charleston Police Department has charged 23-year-old Nathaniel Jamal Tyler, of North Charleston, with murder.

About 7:30 p.m. on April 29, officers and EMS responded to the area of Austin Avenue and Delano Street in reference to a man being shot. The victim, Paul Mitchell Jr., was found near 2227 Delano Street and was taken to MUSC, where he later died.

Police recently arrested 19-year-old Antonio Odell McNeil, also of North Charleston, and 22-year-old Kyser Montgomery, of Delano Street in connection with Mitchell's death.

McNeil, the alleged shooter, is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.  Montgomery is charged with accessory in the murder.

All three suspects are being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
