Cops: 2 suspects shoot, rob man with shotgun outside apartment

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - An armed robbery outside a Summerville apartment left a man in the hospital Tuesday night, suffering from a shotgun wound. The two suspects involved are still on the run.

Summerville police officers responded to Planter's Retreat apartments on Ladson Road around 7:15 p.m. in reference to a shooting. Officers met with several witnesses who said that a man was shot by two men during an armed robbery.

One of the witnesses was a friend of the victim. She told police that the victim was waiting outside of her apartment until she returned home. As she returned home with another friend, she saw two men rob the victim.

The woman told officers that one of the suspects, who was wearing a dark gray hoodie, attempt to get into the victim's pants pockets. One of the suspects was holding a long black gun, according to the witness. The victim and the suspect began to fight and then the female witness said she heard two to three gun shots.

The suspects left on foot in an unknown direction. The victim was taken to Summerville Medical Center by a friend. He was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg, and later released.

Officers recovered a shotgun from the scene and a 9 mm shell casing under one of the cars in the parking lot. Fragments of a 9 mm hollow point bullet were also found lodged in the trunk of a car.

According to witnesses, the suspects had their faces covered, but are described as a about 5'6" to 5'7" and weigh about 150 pounds. The witnesses said they didn't know the suspects.
