Deputies arrest man accused of burning down house with man inside

ORANGEBURG, SC (WCSC) - The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office arrested a man accused of breaking into a home, beating two people and burning down the house with one of the victims inside.

Deputies say 45-year-old Hozell Jones was arrested without incident Wednesday evening.

Jones is accused of assault and burglary stemming from a Monday night incident when he kicked in the door of his ex-girlfriend's home and began attacking her.

An incident report states that Jones then attacked a man who was also at the house, knocking him unconscious. The 29-year-old female victim escaped out the back door along with her children.

Officers say the home was then set on fire after Jones kicked over a can of kerosene before he fled the scene.

A neighbor entered the burning home to pull the unconscious male victim to safety. The victim was taken to the Augusta Burn Center in Georgia and is listed in critical condition.
