Important information for AT&T U-verse subscribers

As you know, Live 5 WCSC has been negotiating with AT&T U-Verse to reach a fair, market-based agreement for carriage of our station. Unfortunately, we have not yet reached an agreement.

However, we have agreed to an extension until Feb. 29. As a result, WCSC will remain available on AT&T U-Verse as we continue to negotiate. Our goal is to reach an agreement and there will be no interruption of your service.

What is going on between AT&T U-VERSE and WCSC?

To serve viewers like you, WCSC negotiates agreements with cable companies like AT&T U-VERSE that bring our signal to your home. Usually, these deals are reached without any disruption to your service. Unfortunately, so far AT&T U-VERSE has refused to reach a fair, market-based deal to carry WCSC. By law, the deadline for reaching an agreement has been extended to Feb. 29. If no deal is reached by midnight, Feb. 29, you could lose the shows, sports and local news you rely on and which you are paying for.

I don't want to lose access to WCSC. What can I do?

Two things. First, contact AT&T U-VERSE at 1-800-288-2020 and let them know you don't want to lose WCSC. Second, keep checking this website for updates, or sign up for our Twitter feed. We'll let you know how the negotiations are going and if it is time to look at other options to keep getting WCSC.

What will I be missing if I lose WCSC?

Unfortunately, you and your family could lose some of the best programming of the year. But you shouldn't have to miss a minute. Let AT&T U-VERSE know that you want WCSC on the dial.

Why is AT&T U-VERSE refusing to reach a deal to carry WCSC?

We cannot speak for AT&T U-VERSE. What we can say is that the deal we have proposed is based on the fair market value of our programming and is similar to agreements that stations like ours have reached with other cable companies in our area. WCSC will continue to be available on other providers such as DirecTV and DISH Network.

If AT&T U-VERSE stops carrying WCSC, will I get a refund on my cable bill?

It is up to AT&T U-VERSE to decide whether or not to give you a refund if they stop carrying WCSC. We can say that we think it is wrong for you to still be paying for WCSC if you are no longer receiving it.

I have heard AT&T U-VERSE say that if they reach an agreement with WCSC they will have to raise my cable bill. Is that true?

It is up to AT&T U-VERSE to decide what they charge their customers. What we can say is that we have reached agreements with other TV providers and none have publicly said that they had to raise their rates as a direct result. And importantly, you are ALREADY paying AT&T U-VERSE for our station. So it is not clear why your rates should go up further if AT&T U-VERSE simply continues providing you what you have been paying for.
