Woman charged with fatal Beaufort shooting

A woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting on Dec. 11.

Roquel Connors, 20, was arrested by Beaufort police in connection with the shooting that happened at 1700 Salem Rd. It stemmed from a drug deal that turned into a robbery attempt, according to Beaufort police.

The victim drove two other men to meet with Connors in the parking lot of Canal Apartments for a prearranged drug buy, according to police.

A passenger in the victim's vehicle tried to steal drugs and money from Connors, which resulted in a struggle, according to police.

Connors is accused of pulling a 9mm pistol from her purse and firing a shot that struck Mark Kevin Jones, 51, who was driving the vehicle.

Connors has been charged with manslaughter, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

The investigation continues and more and suspects are pending.
