Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis stopped all 23 shots to give the Gwinnett Gladiators (13-8-5-3) a 1-0 shutout victory over the South Carolina Stingrays (14-11-0-1) on Chase After A Cure Night and Sing For Santa at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday night.
Gladiators defenseman Will Colbert grabbed the games only goal 36 seconds into the second period lifting a shot over the right shoulder of Stingrays goaltender Daren Machesney (L, 21 saves on 22 shots) from the point. Forwards Igor Gongalsky and Nikita Kashirsky added assists.
Jakaitis kept the Stingrays out including a two-minute 5-on-3 power play in the third period to earn his second shutout of the season. The Stingrays finished the night 0-for-5 on the man advantage while the Gladiators went 0-for-7.
The Stingrays host the Greenville Road Warriors at the North Charleston Coliseum tomorrow, Sunday, December 18 at 4:00 p.m. on Kid's Day.
