Police arrest man for concealing toy gun during traffic stop

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say they have arrested a 21-year-old North Charleston man after he attempted to hide a toy gun from officers during a traffic stop in downtown.

The Charleston Police Department arrested charged Jamal Michael Anthony Clark with concealed toy pistol.

On Friday night, officers pulled over a 2011 Dodge on Norman and Bogard streets for an improper turn and failure to give proper signals.

Officers say they noticed that the rear passenger, Clark, was fidgeting with something underneath his legs.

Authorities told Clark to stop moving and show his hands.

A police report states that an officer saw a 1911 style pistol in plain view at the suspect's feet. As the officer alerted officers, investigators say the suspect attempted to conceal the pistol underneath the front passenger seat using his feet.

Officers detained Clark and found a Powerline Model 1911 style BB gun. During the incident, Clark said, "That gun isn't real."
