CHARLESTON, SC -

College of Charleston's Andrew Lawrence (London, England) is among the initial candidates list for the 2012 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award as announced by The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Monday.

The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in college basketball. Nearly 60 candidates have been nominated for the 2012 Bob Cousy Award.

Lawrence, a 6-foot-1 junior who is a 2012 Olympic hopeful for Great Britain, currently ranks No. 20 nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.83), No. 38 in steals per game (2.3 avg) and No. 58 in assists per game (5.1) leading the Cougars to their current 9-1 record. Former CofC point guard Tony White, Jr., was the last Cougar basketball player to be named a candidate for the prestigious award in 2010.

This original list of candidates will be narrowed down to the final 20 by January 1, final 10 by February 1 and final 5 by March 1. A premier selection committee will be appointed by the Hall of Fame to review the final five candidates in contention for the nation's top collegiate point guard award.
