National Guard to fly unmanned vehicle in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Army National Guard is scheduled to conduct flights of the Raven, a small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), at the Berkeley County Airport Wednesday morning.

UAVs are used to conduct surveillance, reconnaissance and target acquisition missions in combat. Officials say the Raven functions in day and night, and it can send live video and still images to the operator.

According to officials, the purpose of the flight is to maintain the UAV operator's readiness in preparation for an upcoming deployment at the beginning of the year.
