CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - An attorney for The Citadel says the school has contacted local authorities regarding a letter from an attorney who alleges that his client experienced inappropriate conduct while at the school.
According to attorney M. Dawes Cooke, late last week, The Citadel received a letter from an attorney whose client attended The Citadel summer camp in the mid-1980's.
The client alleges that he experienced inappropriate conduct during that time.
On Monday, school officials say they shared this information and the allegation with local law enforcement.
The Citadel says it is fully cooperating with the Charleston Police Department as they pursue this matter.
When reached for comment, Charleston police says the solicitor's office passed on information to the department on Tuesday. That information will be reviewed by the police department, according to Charleston police.
The Citadel says they encourage anyone who may have knowledge of inappropriate conduct at the summer camp to contact law enforcement officials.
A press release issued by the school says,"Because this is now the subject of a possible law enforcement investigation, we will have no further comment on this matter."
